Subject says it all: fix2 of 1.1.2 is closed, no more commits.

m40 of SRC680 is ready for use and I have updated my build system to it. I will add problems I realized during the build.

Wizards don't build, because of missing complexlib (#i29656#).

For packing images, we need new Perl module Archive::Zip (#i29665#).

deliver.pl in wizards can fail, because target directory doesn't exist (#i29666#).

I can't confirm the license (#i29667#).

According to ComputerWorld, Novell Australia is now using OpenOffice.org instead of Microsoft Office. -----

I have just finished build-9 and it is now being mirrored to ftp.linux.cz. Only GNU/Linux and Microsoft Windows for now, but other systems will follow soon. -----

No, I'm not joking. Microsoft Corp. released patch with this name for Microsoft Windows XP operating system. They even have article about the problem in their knowledge base. -----

Fabrice was online on IRC channel #qemu today and fixed several issues in Bochs' BIOS code and also in network card emulation inside QEMU and now it is possible to boot from GRUB floppy that is using netboot.

I'm now installing SuSE Linux 9.0 via AutoYast from NFS server on local network. Installation was started from floppy image that I use on real systems. GRUB successfully detected emulated NE2000 card, I assigned IP address, network mask, gateway and TFTP server and installation kernel and initial ramdisk were downloaded by TFTP.

Command line used to running the first part of installation was:

/tmp/QEMU/bin/qemu -boot a -fda /tmp/floppy.img -hda /tmp/hda.img \
                   -pci -user-net -m 128

After the first part is finished and system reboots, qemu exits and I have to run it again this time booting from disk:

/tmp/QEMU/bin/qemu -boot c -hda /tmp/hda.img -pci -user-net -m 128

I have registered #qemu channel on freenode.net and the discussion started almost immediately. QEMU is wonderful project - you should investigate it, really ;-)

QEMU now contains experimental support for PCI bus (use -pci command line option to enable it). Solaris 9 and 10 x86 now successfully detected PCI IDE and Ethernet card, but the installation still doesn't work completely.

I have added preliminary support for Kannada language to my build system, upgraded devel branch of it to just released SRC680_m39 and reported #i29326# (codename basegfx and tools circular dependency).

Several interesting news yesterday. Microsoft released their second Open Source project (see Windows Installer XML (WiX) toolset and now also Windows Template Library (WTL)) and managing director of local Sun offices decided to leave company (Czech only).

I visited Richard M. Stallman's presentation on Software patents in Prague today. Wonderful presentation with a clear structure and message.

"(With software patents) developing software is like crossing the mine-filed."

UpdateRichard was also on TV. I wonder how professional translator who knows it all is about patents can translate the word patent as pattern ;-)

Next community workspace for upcoming 1.1.2 has been opened today. Its names is cws_srx645_ooo112fix2. This branch has several issues as of now: three modules are not tagged (dlcompat, apache_java and msfontextract), some directories do not contain all changes from fix1 (see e.g. issues #i27765# and #i28068#). I have extracted both README files and GSI files for all supported languages. I haven't finished build yet, because of missing modules (if you want to try, use fix1 versions), but built transex3 project. deliver.pl emits warning messages (see #i28924# for more details). Maybe someone who is masochistic enough to learn Perl will change it ;-)

I filed these issues today:

The next community workspace for 2.0 version was opened. It is named cws_src680_ooo20040509.

I already committed two queued fixes to it - #i27931# and #i28508#.

Update: #i26851# is also needed to get psprint module compiled.

The first version of QEMU CPU Emulator that can install and run Microsoft Windows XP has been released. Version 0.5.4 can also boot Linux/PPC kernel.

Jeff Dike announced initial port of User Mode Linux (UML) to x86_64. The patch for Linux kernel 2.6.4 is available at here.
